Snowflake Generation - Wiki
Generation Snowflake, or Snowflake Generation, is a neologistic term used to characterize the young adults of the 2010s as being more prone to taking offence and having less psychological resilience than previous generations, or as being too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own. The term is considered derogatory. It is one of several informal examples of usage of the word snowflake to refer to people. The term snowflake has been used to refer to children raised by their parents in ways that give them an inflated sense of their own uniqueness
Yup covers all bases for me.... can't see my statement as a problem...

When i was growing up i just wanted to shag my science teacher - you cant even do that nowadays. As it happens she got involved with a pupil when she moved to another school all hush hush and moved on...she was a sort mind.
All that remains is the image of her bush, doing that basic instinct move on a Lab stool BOING!

My original point to Sold was as said below.......calling a kid distraught at being released a snowflake is unfair and poor IMO.

What are you saying then, Rossal?
The statistics are there for every parent to see, and they should explain to their kids that it's a tough road to making it.
It seems to me that most of what these kids want is fame and fortune, which is a dangerous path.

Ahhh, apologies, Eerie. I didn't see your post with regards to Kieran Sadler, being at Doncaster Rovers. He's actually an example of what should happen when you get rejected by a top club, make it to the lower league and hopefully, work up.
My point stands for all the youngsters that go from top flight academy, then on to nothing or maybe an average Semi pro team at best.
I would of loved to have been at any professional club , except for certain London rivals.

Yeah mate, we all had dreams when we were kids.
Most of us eventually have to join the real world.
Are you saying kids that were at football clubs are a special case?

When I was growing up nobody ever told me that I was special, talented or unique but that was O.K because I didn't expect to hear it anyway. However, it would of been nice to hear it on occasion even if deep down I didn't really believe it myself.
Nowadays I hear parents repeat it to their kids over and over again like a mantra - they seem to think if they say it enough times then their kids will turn out alright - but it's not that simple.
So as usual the human condition goes from one extreme of what was acceptable to another but rarely finds the balance in-between.
What kids need is a good school but more importantly parents who give them the time and space to work things out for themselves. Too much suffocation doesn't end well from what I can tell
That is all.

Eerie, finally.
Of course, what you say is true. I was just speaking more in context to the thread.
At the very least, players with Reece Oxford's background (ie on the books of a premier league's team's academy for 10 years) should, in my opion, still make it at league 1 or Champioship.
I think eventually, the penny will drop for Oxford. Unfortunately for us and himself, it won't be the glittering career we all thought it would be.

There is a conveyor belt of talent, so if you don't take your opportunity you get moved on and only have yourself to blame.

I went to the same school as Nigel Quashie - he was good but I can name another 6 kids off the top of my head who ran rings around him at school/youth level.
He ended up the professional footballer - Go figure

Actually one of my MATES made it... at the age of 26... was on West ham books (saw him play a few times including running Tony Adams ragged and notching a hat trick against him) ... in the same youth team as Paul Ince... was told he was too light weight... ended up playing the same standard of Sunday football I was at the age of 21... played Cricket with him as well... decided out of the blue half way thro' the season to go on a soccer scholarship course to the US... played college football (in front of 50k crowds) and broke the Goal scoring record (think it still stands) for college games... got in the MLS (Collarado Rapids) and then Rochdale bought him at the age of 26 ... season with them... and then decided to jack it all in Mike Marsh style and took a nice pay out for a knee injury.... he was not a snowflake... a waster yup... but not a snow flake...
